The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) partnered with the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence in an effort to increase the number of doctorally prepared faculty available to teach in nursing schools nationwide.
Doctorally educated nurses are in very short supply but are very important for the future of the discipline. This joint initiative is an attempt to prepare nurses for leadership, research, practice and academic positions. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has administered similar programs successfully in the past and the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program has provided more than $3 million in funding to support 54 PhD scholars at 22 nursing schools in 17 states.
Supported by the Jonas Family Fund at the Jewish Communal Fund, this new program provides financial assistance, leadership development, and mentoring support to 150 new doctoral students across the nation. At least one scholarship worth $10,000 will be awarded for each state. The scholarship will be matched by the institution in which the student is enrolled.
