A collaborative effort between the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing aims to provide financial support to students enrolled in doctoral nursing programs. The Jonas Center will give $10,000 to each selected student which is matched by the school in which the student is enrolled.
Furthermore, schools will financially help their students attend a conference with a focus on leadership development held in Washington, DC by AACN. The focus of the conference is on federal policy, faculty role development, as well as career and research planning. Each state will receive at least one scholarship through this program and schools in states without doctoral programs in nursing can still apply for support if students enroll in doctoral programs outside the state. The program will also make available an online community intended to make it easier for students to exchange ideas, network, and request support from fellow scholars. All students participating in the program are required to complete a leadership project which may include giving a presentation or writing a journal article.
