  • Are you a registered nurse looking to advance your career and increase your earning potential? If the answer is yes, then you might want to consider becoming a nurse practitioner.

Nurse practitioners (NP) are commonly employed by hospitals or clinics to work as advanced practice nurses (APN). They earn an average annual salary between $83,000 and $100,000. To become an advanced practice nurse, one needs to complete a master's degree in nursing and then pass a board certification exam in their chosen specialty. Nurse practitioners are trained and certified to practice in one specialty area. Advanced practice nurses must hold an active registered nurse license in the state where they work and closely follow the rules and regulations of the Nurse Practice Act.

Many accredited schools and universities offer master's degrees in nursing for those looking to become nurse practitioners in any of the following fields: family health, women's health, psychiatry and mental health, pediatrics, neonatology, gerontology, acute care, adult health, oncology, emergency, and occupational health.
