  • The job of labor and delivery nurses is to care for women and their newborns before, during and after a baby is born. Their mission is to act as the patient's advocate, as well as to maintain, improve and promote the health of women and newborns.

Nursing scholarships and grants are available for staff nurses who wish to continue their professional education and are committed to the maternal-child specialty. One of the substantial scholarships available to registered nurses is sponsored by the March of Dimes. In an effort to support nursing education, this organization offers several $5,000 scholarships per year to registered nurses enrolled in maternal-child graduate nursing programs. Applications for this scholarship must be submitted by January of every year.

In addition to the funding available from the March of Dimes Foundation, minority nurses have the opportunity to apply for the $2,000 yearly scholarship awarded by the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. Students attending master degree nursing programs with a focus in maternal-child care are encouraged to contact the association for more information regarding this scholarship opportunity.
