The American Academy of Nursing accepts scholarship applications for the Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity, Claire M. Fagin Fellowship Program. This is a fellowship program dedicated to financially support two years of full time research, leadership, and advanced educational training for doctorally prepared nurses with careers in academic geriatric nursing.

The fellowship program awards a total amount of $120,000 to each registered nurse selected as a scholarship recipient. This nursing scholarship is offered in July of each award year and it is made available by two generous sponsors, the John A. Hartford Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies. Nurses interested in submitting an application for this fellowship need to meet the following requirements: be a professional registered nurse, hold a doctoral nursing degree, have analytical skills and research potential, and show a commitment to contribute to the geriatric nursing specialty.
